MADE IN THE USSR BOHEMIAN SMOKEY GLASS JUG AND TUMBLER SET. 1970’s. VINTAGE SOVIET

This is a private sale from a pet and smoke free home. I purchased this stylish seven piece jug and tumbler set new in London during the 1970’s.

It is highly versatile, being suitable for serving all manner of liquids such as: wine, water, fruit juice, pimm’s, cocktails, etc.

This good quality practical Bohemian Glass set is now a highly collectable Mid Century item, and becoming quite rare.

Glassware produced in the USSR during the 1970’s is frequently referred to as “Bohemian” or “Bohemian style” glass due to the close economic and stylistic ties between the former Soviet Union and Czechoslovakia (where the Bohemia region is located) during that era. Many Soviet factories in the 1960’s and 1970’s adopted Czech techniques (particularly for cut glass) resulting in their pieces being branded as “Soviet Bohemia”.

This smokey glass set originally had a gold sticker on the jug (also called a “pitcher”) which stated that it had been made in the USSR, and was housed in a cardboard box with a faux wooden finish.

The fact that the USSR sticker is no longer on the jug, and the set is now unboxed, has been reflected in my asking price.

As I have so many other jugs and drinking glasses this elegant set has only been used once. Since that time it has been carefully stored in a clean, dry environment and consequently is in very good condition for its age, with no chips, cracks or scratches.

The jug and tumblers all have a tapered base.

Also, the spout of the hand blown jug has been cleverly pinched into a shape which stops any ice falling into the tumblers when liquid is poured from it.

The clean lines of this stylish set form a timeless design which would look lovely in either a traditional or modern environment.

Approximate dimensions: The jug is 23.5 cm high, with a base diameter of 8.0 cm. Its top is 9.0 cm by 12.0 cm between its outer edges. Each tumbler is approximately 10.0 cm high, with a base diameter of 5.0 cm and a top diameter of 7.0 cm.
