The Good Housekeeping Institute was founded in 1924 with the objective of providing housewives with specialised help and advice. This popular book is the culmination of years of unique experience and is the seventh edition.

The encyclopaedia covers a plethora of home related topics. It includes advice and step by step guidance on diverse subjects such as: waste disposal, sewing, knitting, gardening, cooking equipment, first aid, pests, stain removal, DIY (including laying loft insulation and doing upholstery), health and beauty and many others.

Its advice on a wide range of household related subjects and guides on how to do a raft of things is as practical and useful today as it was when originally written.

This encyclopaedia is also a rich source of design inspiration for professional and amateur design and architecture enthusiasts, and a fascinating record of social history.

Its pages include numerous colour and black and white photographs, in addition to line drawings and diagrams.

This book has been stored in a cupboard away from sunlight in a clean, dry environment so is in very good condition for its age.

This item has no loose or missing pages, nor does it have any marks or staining or tears or handwritten notes on it. The pages are slightly yellow, which is usual for vintage paper. Its coloured illustrations, photographs and text remain bright and crisp.

It still retains its original paper dust cover. This is a little creased at the bottom on the back from having been in storage for many years.
