Adult horse sharer wanted – 3 days/week – Balcombe, West Sussex
Looking for an experienced adult to share Deano, our 14.2hh Connemara gelding, 12 years old, kept on DIY livery at a welcoming yard in West Sussex (near Haywards Heath). We are looking for someone who can do 3 days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday — or a Sunday could work instead), ideally on the days my daughter is away at college.
Deano is a friendly, all-rounder who particularly loves jumping and dressage. The yard has an outdoor floodlit arena plus hacking both around the farm and along quiet country lanes.
As a former hunter, Deano is better hacking solo or with just one companion rather than in a big group — in larger groups he can get strong and jogs as his "hunting brain" kicks in. He takes his lead from his rider, so will suit someone confident and experienced and assertive.
He's snaffle-mouthed, responsive to the leg, and enjoys mixing up his week with different activities.
In winter he can be a bit spooky, though this amounts to a sideways hop or a few canter strides — he's a safe pony and doesn't rear. Currently ridden by my 14yr old and 16 year old daughters.
On the ground he's easy to bring in, turn out, and handle for routine care.
Please note: We're unable to consider anyone under 18, and would prefer a rider around 12 stone or under, as Deano has had some previous back issues.
This is a DIY share, so the sharer would take on yard chores on their days, with a contribution of £20 per day.
