Lilliput Lane Honeysuckle Cottage - 1984 version (L0250)

This particularly rare model is called Honeysuckle Cottage. It features a thatched roof and a dog curled up on the front lawn (see pictures).

This thatched cottage in Hampshire was built in the seventeenth century and, for its period, is quite a substantial house.  Oak beams from the local forest were used for the main frame and would have been filled in with clay on oak staves then painted with lime wash. 

As with many houses of this period, bricks often replaced these fragile infills.  here the roof nearly touches the floor, the term “catslide” roof is used.

The Honeysuckle Cottage model is approximately 12cm wide, 7cm deep and 7cm high. It has “Lilliput Lane Copyright 1984” impressed on one side.  The sticker on the base says “Honeysuckle Cottage by Lilliput Lane. One of our miniature masterpieces. Handmade in Cumbria, United Kingdom” (see photo).

One of the rarer Lilliput Lane pieces.  It was handmade by the craftspeople of Lilliput Lane, it was retired from the South East Collection series in 1984.  

The cottage is in great condition—with no damage or repairs, but it is not in its original box and does not have its original deed.
