Detailed Lesson Plans have been carefully crafted using a consistent layout covering Recap, Objectives, Main Points, Practice and Summary sections. Each Detailed Lesson Plan describes the “What?”, “How?” and “Why?” for each subject, is structured for clarity and is written in plain English for ease of understanding. Together, these Detailed Lesson Plans explain how to drive in a safe and controlled manner based on effective anticipation and hazard perception, well timed observations and clear signals considering road, traffic and weather conditions and paying due regard to all other road users and the law.

Also included are separate Cutdown Lesson Plans to be used by both Trainee and Qualified Instructors once they are familiar with the content in the Detailed Lesson Plans. Each Lesson Plan is supported by a separate Lesson Diagrams document depicting the main elements and key takeaway points of the lesson. These diagrams can be helpful for explaining more complicated topics or manoeuvres and are invaluable for Learners with a visual learning style/preference.

For those trained or near test-standard Learners, each Lesson Plan is supported with its own separate Recap Questions document. The content from each Detailed Lesson Plan has been distilled to create a series of targeted open questions which can be used by Qualified and Trainee Instructors to quickly establish a pupil’s level of knowledge and understanding and determine their test readiness prior to getting on the move in a lesson situation.

3. All Lesson Plans, Diagrams and Recap Questions documents were created with manual cars in mind. However, the vast majority of the content in this Resource Pack applies universally to manual, automatic and now electric vehicles.

5. Due to the level of detail contained, some of the images in the Lesson Diagrams documents may benefit from being printed using a High Quality print setting in Printer Properties. However, this is not essential.

6. If you print the Resource Pack, I recommend laminating the Lesson Diagrams documents to allow you to use dry wipe marker pens on them during lesson delivery. The Lesson Diagrams can then be wiped clean in readiness for the next lesson.
