For over twenty years I’ve been engaged in the art of photography, fine tuning my skills and abilities, and drawing on the many experiences of a varied life of travel around the world.
Growing up in the UK, I enjoyed capturing the changing faces of family, friends and local landscapes. At the age of 19, young, curious and longing to expand my horizons beyond Newcastle, where I grew up, with my Pentax ME Super in hand I travelled overland from London to Egypt in a minibus. This was the first time I had been overseas; and I re-call it being both an amazing and an eye-opening experience, which confirmed my love of warmer climes and my desire to travel.
Determined to enjoy life in the sun, I trained as a diving instructor and worked in Malta, Dubai and Oman. I enjoyed the heat, the weightlessness and calm of being in the ocean, and experimented with underwater photography capturing the wonders of the Big Blue.
I also had an eye for landscape/architecture and developed a taste for recording real estate and hotel resorts. In 2004, before aerial ‘drone’ photography, I found myself in Southeast Asia using petrol powered remote helicopters, shooting aerial images for clients who wanted to share the best perspective of prestigious properties and high-end, luxury resorts.
It was here that I focused again on faces and places, drawing upon the very rich threads of culture and creativity; weddings, dance, street scenes; the intricacies of life that makes the ordinary extra ordinary.
In recent months, I’ve been drawn to ‘dography’, inspired by their loyalty and the joy they’ve brought to their owners in tricky times; celebrating the unconditional companionship between people and their pets and creating a lasting legacy for owners and their four legged friends.
With an emphasis on fun, my shooting style is creative and contemporary, using a blend of both natural and artificial light, creating magical, memorable images.
If you’re looking for the perfect keepsake of your four-legged friend, drop me a line and we can chat through your wish list. With a bit of patience (and a bag of dog treats), the possibilities are endless!
Ant Photography is located in Newcastle upon Tyne but is available for private and commercial sessions all over the world.
