I’m surrounded by big open skies, picturesque fields, rural valleys and dramatic cliffs. Sussex is a wonderful place to wander and it’s a delight to have such a diverse landscape on my doorstep.
Gentle hills shape the land and stretch to the ocean where they suddenly drop at daunting hights to the sea and air beyond; vast chalky cliffs glare in the sun, waves crash against pebbles, fossils, shells and sand and the open spaces leave me feeling comforted and calm.
Twisting hawthorns jut out of the South Downs hills like grotesque limbs and the meandering tidal rivers bring wildfowl and fauna to the valleys, transforming the landscape throughout the seasons. These spaces fill me with wonder, put a skip in my step and a smile on my face.
Iconic scenes such as The Seven Sisters at Beachy Head, the Fishermans Cottages by Seaford and bustling Brighton with its migrating starlings and eclectic crowds, never fail to be a photographic delight.
Best of all is being able to walk from my house up onto the South Downs by Alfriston and look out to the sea, breathe the fresh air and look for new compositions in the landscape for the perfect photograph.
Do get in touch if you would like to use one of my photographs online or want a print for your wall. However, why not try out one of my upcoming Photography Walks instead? You could take some cracking images yourself and improve your abilities behind the camera and learn about manual settings, composition, lighting and plenty more.
These run throughout the year at several unique locations and are listed with more information on the link below.
