Sessions are highly structured & aim to suit the individual learning requirements of the student, through developmental feedback, advice & guidance. Music education should challenge, fulfil & enrich.
Tuition is based at Foxton, but home visits are available. Cost per sessions: the first consultation session is free; £15.00 for 30 minutes; £30.00 for 1 hour; £45.00 for 90 minutes.
All sessions are based on 8-week schemes which are tailored to suit the individual needs of the student. The ethos of Foxton School of Music is learning through well-designed activity, creativity, comprehensive subject knowledge & the enjoyment of personal achievement.
Piano & Singing sessions are from grades 1 to 5 ABRSM or equivalent. Music Theory is from grades 1 to 8, ABRSM. Students will also gain skills in technical exercises, theory, aural, sight-reading, improvisation & general musicianship.
Composition sessions are in three stages: Beginner, Intermediate & Semi-Professional. Session will include in-depth assessment; a broad range of compositional techniques; analysis; historical & contextual understanding; listening & research; rhythmic, harmonic & melodic development; composing for instruments and voices.
Dr Nick Redfern is the director of the Foxton School of Music & studied composition, piano & singing at Huddersfield Polytechnic, followed by postgraduate study in composition at King’s College London, The Royal College of Music & Birmingham Conservatoire. He has worked as an education facilitator with The London Sinfonietta, Opera Factory, English National Opera, The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra & The London Symphony Orchestra. He has a broad range of experience in music education & has taught in schools, colleges & universities from levels 1 to 6.
Nick is also active as a researcher & writer.
