The South Devon Players Theatre & Film Company, offers a new approach to theatre-making. Involving people of all levels of experience, from beginners to seasoned professionals, the Players create full scale dramatic productions primarily focussing on historical events and classical texts

The South Devon Players has been running for 19 years and specialises in dramas based on researched history, and classical literature (and Shakespeare); creating inclusive, and empathic opportunities for people of all ages, demographics, and experience, to launch, or further, their careers in theatre and performing arts, as well as related disciplines.

The South Devon Players also value the educational and social benefits of theatre, extremely highly, running training classes and providing educational materials alongside the show, as well as creating accessible, affordable theatre shows, our educational outputs for the community, leading on inclusion for marginalised people to access culture; and creating pathways to professional careers in arts & culture for local people.

People working with us have gone on to work in large scale film & TV productions, to further training inclusive of RADA and Bristol Old Vic, and to obtain the credits needed for professional registration with the actors Spotlight directory which in turns allows them to be able to apply to register with larger actors agencies. Audience feedback is also extremely positive from our shows and projects.
Our work, over the past few years has won several awards including on a national and international scale; we are the All-England winner of the "Epic Award" 2017 (now rebranded as the Creative Lives Award) and the Theatre Partner Award in the Long Island Theatre Awards 2019 (New York).
We are also now linking with various organisations, including regional universities, to widen our community offerings through education and placements.
