I rarely leave negative reviews and I’m generally quite laid back, but unfortunately this was one of the worst experiences I’ve had with a garage.
I booked my car in for an EV MOT and service and paid in advance, assuming that an AA-approved garage would be capable of carrying out the work requested. Everything initially seemed fine when dropping the car off. However, after payment I was then informed that they do not actually carry out EV servicing as expected and would instead only complete some basic checks such as tyres, brakes etc. I admit I should perhaps have checked this in more detail myself beforehand rather than assuming they could complete a proper EV service, but I also expected clearer communication before taking payment.
Things then went downhill very quickly. I received a call telling me my car had failed because the window wipers were not working. I was shocked because they had been working perfectly less than 24 hours earlier. I asked about the issue and whether they could provide a quote to repair it, but no quote was given and there seemed to be very little interest in helping resolve the problem.
When I arrived to collect my car, things became even more concerning. I was told again that the wipers did not work and essentially that it was my issue. I also questioned whether basic checks had actually been completed, as my washer fluid had definitely been empty before the visit and my car app still showed it had not been topped up. This was denied.
To make matters worse, when they took me to collect my vehicle they could not even locate it for over five minutes. The car was eventually found parked several streets away and unlocked. I then got into the car and immediately discovered that not only did the wipers still not work, but I also had dashboard warnings saying the bonnet was open when it clearly wasn’t, and the car would not lock properly either. My vehicle had gone in with none of these issues and was now in a far worse condition than when I left it.
I fully accept frustrations were building at this point because from my perspective something had clearly happened while the vehicle was in their care. However, rather than trying to investigate or help, I felt my concerns were dismissed. I was repeatedly interrupted, spoken over and effectively told that I was blaming the garage and that I was wrong.
Thankfully I later spoke to another mechanic at Central Avenue Service Station who was much more professional and helpful. He asked me to bring the car back and within around three minutes managed to clear multiple random faults and warning messages. That immediately raised concerns for me regarding the original diagnosis and whether the first mechanic fully understood the issue.
The final frustration was regarding the service I had already paid for in advance. I had specifically paid for a service but left with very little confidence that any meaningful work had actually been carried out. My washer fluid remained empty, I was told checks could not be completed because my wheel locking nut was stored away safely, and when I asked to see any original parts or filters that had supposedly been changed, nothing could be shown to me. This only added to my concern that I had paid for a service that I simply did not receive.
Overall, I left feeling frustrated, disappointed and with very little confidence in either the workmanship or customer service provided. My car entered with working wipers and no warning faults and left with multiple issues. I would not return and unfortunately cannot recommend this garage based on my experience.
