In 2015 the government introduced what is called Pensions Freedom and Choice the most significant changes to pension legislation in our lifetime. These changes will affect everyone who has built up pension benefits regardless of whether through an employer’s final salary scheme or individual funds. Which importantly form the back bone of an individual’s retirement planning.
Pensions are a highly complex area that requires skilled specialist advice. Consider this, Andy Haldane is the chief economist of the Bank of England:
Although “moderately financially literate” he admits “to not being able to make the remotest sense of pensions”
Although probably a little disingenuous the real message is that this is a complex area that requires very careful consideration. Never does the old adage; act in haste repent at leisure, carry more meaning. Get your pension planning wrong and you will have the rest of your life to mull over how it might have been.
