The Baofeng Mini 5 is an upgraded & latest version of the UV-5R Mini, offering a physically larger 2,200 mAh battery (compared to the 1,800 mAh on the older model) and a thicker chassis. It features larger physical buttons and a rearranged keypad layout, making it much easier to operate outdoors while wearing gloves.

The Mini 5 is thicker and slightly bulkier to accommodate the larger battery. Because of this, the batteries between the two models are not interchangeable

Keypad Layout: The Mini 5 has blue secondary text on its buttons (compared to all-white text on the UV-5R Mini). The menu and navigation keys are also repositioned for a more refined front layout.

The flashlight button has been moved to the right side on the Mini 5, and the rubber PTT buttons have been subtly redesigned

Despite these physical updates, the underlying firmware and internals remain mostly identical. Both models feature USB-C direct charging, 999 memory channels, AM Airband reception, and Bluetooth app compatibility via the OLA Radio app. They also share the same programming software and CHIRP settings.
