These very good quality chairs are made from solid English oak - which craftsmen still cherish for its wonderful grain as it is usually considered to be more decorative and unique than oak from elsewhere. They have a lovely rich golden aged patina and the colour of the wood would blend in effortlessly with many different decors.
The charming hand carved stylised leaf motif decoration on each chair’s back rest is very subtle and appealing.
The carver chair is particularly useful as a statement piece of hall furniture when not required for dining.
These sturdy chairs are of a nice, manageable size and hence easy to move around.

Some of the chairs have been used more than others. All the chairs have small dents, marks and variation to the finish of the wood - commensurate with their age. The frames and joints are all very strong. The chairs have no repairs, and are free from woodworm.
The practical drop-in seats are still covered in their original green velvet upholstery. However, this is very worn and needs to be replaced – which should be an easy straightforward job. The requirement for this work to be done has been reflected in the advertised sale price.

This is a reluctant private sale from a pet and smoke free home of these much-loved chairs, which were originally purchased new by my family in the early 1900’s and have been in regular use since then. They are only being sold as we now need the space.
The Arts and Crafts movement is currently enjoying a renaissance, with people eager to track down original pieces of furniture such as these dining chairs. This opportunity to acquire a matching set of original pieces in good condition is therefore worth serious consideration – particularly as modern mass produced reproductions are highly likely to quickly lose their value and are often made from inferior materials.
