After a lot of thought, I’ve decided to offer my lovely mare for sale. This is absolutely no fault of her own—I simply don’t have the time to bring her back into work properly and continue building her fitness and muscle as she deserves.
She is an 11-year-old, 15.3hh Irish Draught mare with a lovely hunter type. She is currently coming back into work after having a few months off over winter due to my personal circumstances. She is happily walking, trotting, cantering and popping the occasional jump, but she is understandably lacking muscle and stamina at the moment. We are aiming to complete a 10-mile fun ride at the end of July to continue building her fitness.
She hacks happily alone or in company and is sensible in traffic and open spaces. She’s the sort I can happily ride on a loose rein, often on the buckle with no stirrups, and she’s always been enjoyable to hack.
Schooling isn’t currently her strongest point, mainly because our arena is deep and she isn’t a huge fan of working in it. With her current lack of muscle, she also finds a smaller school more challenging. As she gets stronger, this continues to improve.
She is a genuine, affectionate mare who loves attention, but she is still a mare and can occasionally be opinionated. She has never been nasty or dangerous—she simply appreciates a confident rider who will ride her positively. For that reason, she would not suit a novice rider. She needs someone who will ride her correctly and help her work into a good shape rather than simply sitting on her.
She is excellent to catch, load, travel, shoe, clip, worm, and for both the vet and dentist. She currently wears front shoes due to our rocky hacking but has previously been barefoot without issue. She has no vices and has never been sick or sorry. The only time she has been lame was after a particularly wet winter when standing in a boggy field softened her feet.
She is including full wardrobe. As I continue bringing her back into work, attending rides and increasing her fitness, her price will increase to reflect this.
I’m in no rush to sell and will happily keep producing her until the right person comes along. Finding her an experienced, knowledgeable and loving home is far more important than a quick sale.
More ridden videos from when she was in full work are available on request.
