A big, chunky lad, Shadow absolutely thrives on getting out and about. He hacks beautifully in company, is happy in big groups, loves the beach and takes everything in his stride. We think he'd be perfectly suited to a hunting or trekking-type home or someone with the time to get him being independent.
Although he's built like a tank, Shadow has surprisingly flashy movement with a huge, floaty trot that really catches the eye. He's a lovely mover and has plenty of presence.
He needs someone who'll quietly say, "Nice try, mate," and crack on.
In the school he's still a work in progress. He can have the odd nap. To be fair, our riders are tiny teenage girls and he's approximately the size of a bungalow, so he does occasionally see if he can negotiate the day's agenda! Once he’s asked if today's lesson is really necessary and told it is he will get on with it but the more consistently he's worked, the better he becomes. He'll suit someone confident enough to laugh, say "not today, mate," and carry on.
There's a nice horse in there that's just waiting for someone to bring him on. He has a big scopey jump but we haven’t done much showjumping with him.
On the ground, Shadow is basically a giant Labrador. He can be a little rude at times, but it's never malicious he genuinely doesn't seem to appreciate that he's 16.2hh and built like a brick outhouse. Personal space isn't his strongest subject, but he more than makes up for it in character.
I could see him being a man’s horse, or even a non horsey boyfriend’s hacking horse, he’ll follow anywhere and he’s so easy out and about!
