Description

Honest advert for our Rodger. He is a 6 year old dales bred gelding standing at 14.1hh.

We have owned Rodger for 3 years, buying him completely untouched and literally untouchable, to the point he would throw himself on the floor when you would try to put the roller on him.

He was a bit of an impulse purchase as we felt sorry for him, he was underweight and scared of his own shadow. He had been bred out on the hills and the herd was left to roam by their previous farmer owner.

The way he has come on and settled into our family has been remarkable. He really is a 'people person' he loves the kids and if he's in the front field at home he will greet you at the gate when you pull in to the driveway.

We have taken it really slowly with him, due to lack of time on our part and not wanting to spoil him. He was mouthed and long reined the first year. Then backed and lightly ridden last year and we have just pulled him out of the field a couple of weeks ago and began riding him again. He's taken it all in his stride. He's been in the arena, not done much schooling as it's not my thing but he will walk, trot and canter on both reins. He's been hacked out, and we live on a 60mph road which we have to go straight out onto when hacking out and he's proved good in traffic up to date. The majority of the time I hack him out on his own and he's fine with that.

He's got no badness in him whatsoever he is such a lovely boy. He is a bit green at the moment as he's not done much this year so far, but I will continue riding him until he is sold. He's been ridden in the field and was spot on, he has a lovely mouth on him and stops when asked, he's not strong or silly whatsoever.

He will stand ridden whilst the kids bounce in front of his face on the trampoline. He will stand ridden in front of the washing line on a windy day. He will ride in between haylage bales in the field and go around the kids whilst they are splashing about in the paddling pool. He's never put a foot wrong.

He lives in a mixed herd and he gets on well with them all. He's good to catch, and the odd time he has been in the trailer he will load and travel fine.

If I had more time he would be staying with us. However with 4 kids, other horses and livestock and a couple of businesses to run, I just don't have time. He needs some routine and consistency whilst he is newly broken. We just want what is best for him and a good home where he will get the love and attention he deserves is the most important.

He is a bit funny with his feet but I'm confident with perseverance and time, he would get over this. I just have front shoes on him.

He really will be someone's heart horse. We would love to keep in touch with the new owners and follow his journey as he really is a special boy to us.
