Polly is a 12-year-old Thoroughbred mare with an impressive background, having previously evented successfully and team chased at a high level. She has plenty of experience and miles under her belt and is now ready to step down and enjoy a quieter, more relaxed lifestyle.
Polly is by a flat stallion out of a National Hunt mare. Although bred for racing, she was a failed syndicate and never raced or trained, instead going on to excel in other disciplines. She is currently on a replacement passport and therefore has no recorded breeding.
She thrives living out and enjoys plenty of turnout, although she will stable well when kept in a consistent routine. Polly does like her routine and can often be keen to be first in and first out. While she may fit the “chestnut mare” stereotype at first, once you gain her trust she is a genuine softie who loves fuss and a good scratch on her withers.
Polly would suit a confident rider looking for a hacking partner. She is both field sound and hacking sound. She can be a little “looky,” particularly when hacking alone, but there is nothing nasty in her—just a forward-thinking mare who benefits from a calm, confident rider for reassurance.
She is not suited to a schooling or dressage home. Polly has found schooling difficult in recent times, and following veterinary advice (including previous SI treatment), she would be best suited to a lighter workload with no schooling going forwards.
Polly does have a medical history, which is reflected in her price. She is looking for a knowledgeable, kind home where she can enjoy a slower pace of life.
With her athletic build and proven ability, Polly could also make a lovely broodmare or companion. In her previous home, she was an excellent “babysitter” for youngstock—calm, sensible, and fantastic at teaching manners without being aggressive.
A lovely mare with a big heart, Polly will make a rewarding addition to the right home.
