🏋️ RIDDEN WORK

🐴 Lunging

Paul’s lunging has come on brilliantly! He lunges perfectly in walk and trot with a very good ear for voice commands. We’ve recently been working on his canter on the lunge, and he’s improving every session.

🐴 Schooling

Paul is still very green and unbalanced in the school, but has worked in all three paces confidently and over poles — he just needs brushing up on this!

🐴 Hacking

Has been hacked in company — happy to go out in front or sit at the back. He’s been happy trotting while horses in front are cantering off. Can be spooky at silly things, but I put this down to him still being a baby with very little experience. When he does spook, he tends to just walk around it — doesn’t run a million miles 😅. Good in open fields and sensible in traffic.

🐴 Jumping

Paul has proven he can jump — he’s popped a log out on a hack and also jumped while free-schooling. He shows great interest and is careful. Again, he’s green but he’s willing.

🤍 ON THE GROUND

🐴 General

Easy to catch, lead, and tie up. Can be nervous around new people and new things. Good to groom; picks up all four feet fine. Can be a little nervous around his head but settles when reassured. He needs work learning to trust when tacking up — can be quite nervous if people rush up to him to put the saddle on.

🐴 Farrier

Barefoot with us. Good for the farrier but, as above, can be nervous around new people — settles when reassured. Hasn’t been shod as we’ve had to start from scratch with him letting people near his feet.

🐴 Loading & Travelling

Has only travelled once with us — that was when we got him. He needs work with loading, but travelled like a dream.

🐴 Clipping

He has been clipped with us. It took time but we managed to get it all off — this was when he didn’t know us well, so he was a bit fidgety. With time and patience I believe he would come round to it.

🐴 Stabling & Field

Stabled with us throughout winter — absolutely fine. Does prefer to have friends around him. Currently lives out with two mares and doesn’t have a care in the world — he definitely likes company.
