"Olive " Mare All Rounder

Olive – 15.2hh, 5yo Thoroughbred Mare

An absolute dope on a rope! 🥰

Olive is a 15.2hh, 5-year-old Thoroughbred who is genuinely one of the kindest, easiest and most sensible horses I’ve had the pleasure of dealing with.

She is very much an old head on young shoulders and absolutely loves a quiet, steady and uncomplicated life. For a young Thoroughbred, her temperament really is exceptional.

On the ground, Olive is an absolute pleasure. She is easy to handle and has no fuss or drama about her. She loads, clips, shoes, travels and behaves impeccably for all the usual day-to-day jobs.

To ride

Olive is equally lovely under saddle. She hacks beautifully alone or in company and is fantastic in open spaces. She doesn’t get strong, silly or look for trouble.

I have had a young girl take Olive on her first ever fun ride, where Olive was incredibly well behaved and really looked after her rider. She has also been ridden by novices.

She schools nicely on the flat, works happily into a contact and has three lovely paces. she has been out doing fun rides and some low-level showjumping, although she simply hasn’t done a huge amount due to her age.

She has never bucked or reared, including when she was experiencing discomfort from her kissing spine.

Kissing Spine / Veterinary History

In 2025, I noticed that she felt slightly “off” behind, despite there being no obvious behavioural issues. I had her thoroughly investigated and she was diagnosed with kissing spine.

As I had originally purchased Olive with the intention of selling her, I made the decision to have her undergo surgery rather than leave the issue for a future owner to manage with injections.

I also felt this was the best route for olive.

She has since had a proper rehabilitation programme, including physiotherapy and plenty of water treadmill work, and the difference in her has been fantastic. She is now feeling like a completely different horse.

I have all of her veterinary reports and X-rays and am more than happy to share everything with any genuinely interested potential buyer.

Home Wanted

Olive would make someone incredibly happy if they are looking for a calm, sensible and uncomplicated horse to enjoy.

She has such a lovely nature and, despite being only 5, has a temperament to die for.

She is not the type of horse that needs riding regularly.

This is a very hard decision. I bought Olive as a project with the intention of selling her, but have grown very fond of her but unfortunately I simply don’t have the time she deserves, and I feel the time has come to find her the right new home.
