"Nala " Liver Chestnut Mare Pony Club Pony

Nala is a lovely young mare who I believe has all the makings of a fantastic first ridden for a child with a knowledgeable and experienced parent behind them.

We had Nala re-backed last year and she proved to be incredibly easy. She has a naturally calm, sensible outlook on life and doesn’t need to be ridden constantly.

She can have time off and comes back exactly the same calm, sensible Nala — there’s no need to work the freshness out of her.

She is very much more woah than go and is a genuine kick-along type. She isn’t sharp, fizzy or looking for an excuse to be silly, which I think will be a huge positive for the right family.

Nala has attended Pony Club, including flatwork, and we’ve recently introduced her to mounted games. She took to it like a pro and wasn’t phased by any of the equipment. She’s also been introduced to poles and, again, took everything in her stride.

She has hacked on the road and has been excellent in traffic. This has been with me walking alongside her, so I don’t want to advertise her as an established ridden hack, but she has been incredibly sensible with everything she’s seen. On one occasion she confidently led a much bigger, nervous horse across a busy road without any hesitation whatsoever.

Although Nala is still green due to her age, she has a sensible head on her shoulders. I believe she could make a lovely first ridden for a child with an experienced parent who can bring out the very best in her.

Nala can initially take a little time to trust new people, so she needs someone who will give her the chance to get to know them.

She isn’t marish in any way and is a very laid-back, easy-going character. She can live in or out, although she does enjoy a night in her stable through the winter and definitely appreciates being tucked up in a nice thick rug!

She is up to date with vaccinations, teeth and back, with her next back check due in December.

The reason for sale is purely down to a change in circumstances. My son has recently lost interest in riding and we currently have two ponies. I can’t justify keeping both when he isn’t wanting to ride at the moment, so I’ve made the incredibly difficult decision to find Nala the right home.

If he does decide to return to riding in the future, I know that he naturally prefers a much more forward type of pony, whereas Nala is a genuine kick-along. That’s no reflection on her.

If I were in the position to keep both ponies, I would.
