"Mia" Chestnut Mare Show Jumper

Mia is a 16hh Dutch Warmblood, chestnut mare, 9 years old, she is a sweet natured and sweet horse, who loves a job. I have had Mia for three years now, and we have taught each other so much. Unfortunately, due to work and personal commitments, my time is limited now and Mia isn’t getting as much time and attention as she deserves, therefore I’m looking for someone who shares a passion for horses to overtake.

Mia requires a competent and confident rider, as she can be an opinionated mare at times, and so suits a rider who can remind her of her job and redirect her. Mia is best suited to a rider who has already competed showjumping to a decent level, or who has maybe come off BSJ ponies and is looking for their next step up. Please do not enquire if you’re a novice and lack experience as she is not suitable for this. 

Showjumping 

This is where most of Mia’s skill and talent lies. She is an excellent jumper, very careful, quick and reliable on any stride or angle, and she has got us out of many tricky situations. We have competed together up to 1.10 and won this class numerous times. Due to work commitments I have never managed to move her up a class, but she is more than capable. At home we have jumped 1.35 happily and she flies over this with confidence and capability. She is a very forward ride when jumping, as it’s what she loves to do. She knows her job very well, and doesn’t require much, therefore she doesn’t like if a rider interferes into a fence too much, however if she gets cheeky, as she can, a simple correction is very useful. Mia is agile, due to her height, and can turn on a penny when asked. However, she has a large stride which covers ground quickly; which is what makes her able to be so competitive in her classes. 

Eventing

I have only done two unaffiliated events with Mia - it is my least confident discipline, however she proved brave and confident in all aspects. Her previous owner also did a few events with her up to 90cm. We have also done arena eventing hire at somerford, and 3 somerford camps involving dressage, showjumping and cross country. Her dressage is very strong, with 3 balanced even paces and some very nice flicky toes. Her showjumping is her strongest suit, where she performs excellently. Cross country was also strong, with a confident approach to jumps and being able to open up in between fences and come back before a fence. 

Mia and I have done numerous fun rides, beach rides and hacks, all of which she loves. On fun rides she will jump any fences, logs, hedges, water jumps, tyres etc, and she has an absolute blast, while being safe and manageable in an open space. On beach rides she loves to play in the water, lick the sand 😂, and have a play around without getting silly, however if you want to step it up a gear in company, she will give them a run for their money. Mia will hack alone and in company for miles, in front or behind, she is sensible in heavy traffic, with tractors, bikes, motorcycles, trailers, wagons etc, she’s seen it all, however some certain traffic cones look evil to her. Mia is good to load, clip, shoe etc.

Please don’t waste my time, and only enquire if your a confident, experienced and capable rider, that has the knowledge, time and expertise for her that also has high standards for day to day horse care, such as keeping things tidy, grooming and upkeep of the horse, and making nice beds!
