16–16.1hh | 7-year-old Thoroughbred Gelding | Wetherby Passport | ROR Eligible
Buster is a compact, athletic young Thoroughbred with a fantastic attitude and plenty of potential. After proving that racing simply wasn’t for him (he had no interest in racing other horses), he has successfully retrained and is now enjoying a varied riding horse career.
He has three balanced, comfortable paces and is well established in the school, working nicely in a consistent outline. In the arena he’s more “whoa” than “go”, making him a genuine, sensible ride, although he isn’t a push-button horse and appreciates a rider with some experience to get the best from him.
Jumping
Buster absolutely loves his jumping. He has competed successfully at 70cm and 80cm, placing regularly, and is careful, quick against the clock and incredibly agile, turning like a pony. At home he has comfortably jumped 1.10m with ease and is always willing. Cross-country is where he really shines; he’s brave, genuine and happily jumps over height, always looking for the next fence.
Hacking
A pleasure to hack both alone and in company. He will happily canter on a loose rein without trying to race and has no desire to chase other horses, even when they set off. He can become a little joggy if repeatedly asked to stay behind while others canter away, but remains sensible and rideable throughout.
Hunting & Team Chasing
Buster has team chased at Novice level, placing on his first outing, with the ability to step up the levels. He is happiest as a following horse rather than the lead. Hunting, he’s bold and genuine over hedges and enjoys following the field or laying trails. Like many horses, he can get excited if the whole field moves off without him, but he has never bolted and remains manageable.
At Shows
He behaves brilliantly away from home, stands quietly on the lorry and waits patiently for his turn. He may occasionally be a little nappy near the warm-up if close to it, but is easily ridden through and always settles.
To Handle
Buster is a true gentleman on the ground. He’s good for the farrier, physio, loading and travelling, and enjoys attention almost as much as treats. He’s currently shod all round and is up to date with vaccinations, teeth, back checks and worming.
He thrives with a confident, capable rider who enjoys producing a horse and wants a genuine all-rounder with plenty left to give. He’s intelligent and happily returns to work after time off without any drama.
Please note: Buster does crib when stabled. This is well managed with a cribbing collar and has never affected his ridden work or overall health.
