Description

Chilli – 15.3hh Irish Draught Mare

15.3hh Irish Draught mare seeking an experienced, knowledgeable home.

Chilli is a sensitive mare who bonds closely with her person and thrives with consistency, routine, and quiet handling. She has been out of work since October due to owner circumstances and has recently undergone a full veterinary lameness work-up and been found sound.

She is not suitable for novices and requires confident, experienced handling. Chilli can be defensive in some situations, particularly around vets, the farrier, and injections, and can become anxious if she feels pressured or unsettled. She benefits from calm, patient handling and someone willing to continue building trust and confidence through groundwork and routine.

On the yard, Chilli can be mare-ish and opinionated. She may pin her ears, pull faces, or become rude around food/stable space, so requires sensible handling and clear boundaries. In the field she enjoys company and is generally lower in the herd.

Once settled and trusting her person, she loads, baths, and clips well. A new owner should expect to allow time for her to adjust and establish a relationship. Once she trusts you, Chilli is affectionate in her own way and thoroughly enjoys a good scratch and pamper during grooming time.

She has previously had ulcers which were treated successfully, and good management/routine are important for her wellbeing. She can occasionally weave when stressed, although this has significantly improved in a quieter, consistent environment.

This is a very difficult sale and finding the right long-term home is the priority. She would suit someone experienced with sensitive horses who values patience, routine, and relationship-building.

No novices, dealers, or riding schools.
