This is an extremely difficult sale for me, as Boris simply hasn’t settled into his current yard environment. I bought him with the intention of him being my forever horse, so this is a decision I have not taken lightly.
Boris is a beautifully natured, affectionate horse who absolutely loves attention. He will happily stand for hours enjoying a groom, fuss and a good scratch. Though Boris is a sensitive chap, he is eager to please, kind to handle and a real character.
He is good on the flat, working happily in an outline and progressing well. He was originally brought up in a showjumping home but unfortunately became sour towards jumping, so I feel his strengths are now better suited to a home with good hacking options and flat work. He will also happily do pole work. He is not suited to a jumping home and I will not consider any homes where there is intention for jumping.
Boris will hack alone or in company. In company he is generally very settled and happy at the front or the back. When hacking alone he can be more alert and may have the occasional spook, though he will always move forward with gentle encouragement. He would therefore suit a confident, sympathetic rider who can give him reassurance when needed.
Turnout & Yard Requirements:
Boris is happiest when turned out with other horses. He can also manage in his own paddock provided he has a companion in an adjacent field, separated by electric fencing if that is how the yard is set up.
He cannot be turned out completely alone. He becomes upset if horses are taken away from him and disappear from sight, although he is perfectly happy being taken away from other horses himself. With very gradual exposure to lone grazing, he may improve - due to current yard set up, this isn’t something I’ve been able to try with him.
He is easy to catch and always meets you at the gate waiting for a scratch and his carrot🥕
For this reason, Boris would thrive on a quiet yard, ideally with horses that follow a similar schedule. A setup where horses are generally turned out and brought in at similar times would suit him particularly well and help him feel secure.
Why He Is Looking for a New Home:
Boris previously lived on a yard with two other horses, where they were all turned out and brought in together, even when not all of them were being ridden. In that environment he was incredibly settled, happy and easy to handle. Unfortunately, that is not how the current yard is set up and so he has found settling in a bit of a challenge.
Sadly, his previous owner is unable to take him back following a road traffic accident, which was the reason for his last sale - he was at his previous home for 3 years. I am not in a position to move yards, and, having returned to horses after a decade away, I do not currently have the experience or confidence needed to give Boris the right home and management.
This is a genuinely heartbreaking sale. Boris was bought as my forever horse and I have no doubt that, in the right environment, he has so much to offer. I am looking for a knowledgeable, understanding home who will appreciate his lovely nature and be able to provide the routine and companionship he needs to feel settled and happy.
The right home is far more important than the price. I would much rather take the time to find the perfect match for Boris than see him move on to another unsuitable situation.
Boris will come with a variety of rugs but no tack. Tack can be negotiated.
Please feel free to get in touch for further information, photos/videos or to arrange a viewing. Boris has a recent vetting certificate from a 5 stage vetting, which I will be happy to provide upon viewing.
