Amazing old wooden crate from one of London's old fish markets in the past. Very chunky and rustic with some great features. Marked on the front with M O F under that B and under that London, ministry of fish, Billingsgate perhaps? One side has some historic green and yellow paint with the original cast iron handle, the other has 96 1/2 flats and grade 3 Canadian Salmon. The back is plain. Inside there is an unattached additional smaller box which sits on two runners so can be positioned in the centre or the side as you wish. We have used it as a log storage box by the fire with kindling and matches in the little box but it could have any number of uses. The black and white photo shows the fish markets of the past with similar boxes in use, they were very robust as they got a lot of rough handling. 57 cmsx 43 cms x 24 cms high
