Bank one to one Support Worker for a 25 year old man with autism and complex needs.
Supported living set up in Salisbury, Wiltshire.
This is run by the deputy manager and the service users mum with direct payments funded by Wiltshire Council.
This job is very challenging as the autistic person can sometimes display Challenging behaviours when anxious.
This is a unique job role needing very skilled staff however no experience is needed as robust training will be provided.
The type of staff that will be required needs to be very emotionally stable as the autistic young man needs help every minute of every day to remain calm. Also, needs ushering through every minute of every day. He appears very able due to being able to speak sometimes but is classed as non verbal so communicates in other ways. The young man is looking for different types of people. This includes some laid back people including calm people, bubbly people, positive people, energetic people and he prefers younger people to support him (prefers people younger than around 35) however will accept anyone as long as they can support effectively when he has an upset. A family atmosphere is also the key here.
Training will be given by a few sources including an autistic practitioner trainer around September/October with the already established team of 5 staff. Extra training will be given on sign language, positive communication, behaviour management.
Incentives for this job will be that the wages are quite high due to the intensive interaction needed and actual needs of the young man.
The manager of the service is the service users Mum but it’s run by the deputy manager who works within the team making it as person centred as possible.
As regards hours required, We are looking for bank staff only now as a staff team of 5 has already been established. We would require anything from just one random hour right up to 24 hours including a sleep-in. The day rate pay per hour is £13 for bank staff and for everyone, the sleep-in rate is £7.83 per hour. The sleep-ins are 1am until 11am due to the service user having an aggressive form of sleep disorder. If covering a 24 hour shift then you would work 12pm until 12pm the next day but flexibility is essential around the timings. To finish regarding the shifts, we must stress that you may not be required to come in for months but then you might be asked to cover holiday and sickness when no staff from the regular team can cover and you might be in for 3 shifts in a month or even more. We just don’t know.
Start date is strait away for training.
The next step. Please get in touch via email- and please state why you are after this job, any experience if any/if your starting out in this line of field then great.
