My name is Sally Wood and I would like to take this opportunity to briefly introduce myself. I run my own service supporting children and young people with autism and their families.
Initially I trained in this field working with child and adolescents in the private psychiatric sector as an OT assistant. My formal training included:
Autism Awareness Trainer Training
Various specific training related to autism and its presenting difficulties including, comorbidity with other developmental conditions and associated mental health problems, environmental factors and educational applications
Experiential training both individual and group in DBT, SFT and mindfulness
Exploration of sensory sensitivity
I provide client centred personalised sessions based in their home environment. These are individually focussed according to the expressed needs by family, carers and professionals as well the individual themselves. These sessions evolve each time and I devise the programme incorporating current/new developments. These also take place outside the home environment. I also offer support to parents in meetings if required. After each session I provide a session summary report for the parent/carer. This contains the summary and strategies to be utilised by their support network. These reports can be shared with education or any other professional appropriate if needed.
My approach is flexible according to the person’s strengths, interests and abilities. It is also relevant to their current circumstances and anticipated challenges. For example, I supported an 11 year old through SATs preparation and transition to secondary education.
Also, I support siblings and families in their comprehension of the condition and provide ongoing advice as to how to maximise their family member’s wellbeing and manage their own feelings.
I hold a valid DBS check and can provide testimonials on request from professionals I have worked with and families I am currently supporting.
I am happy to offer free consultations and informal discussions by phone, email or in person.
