How to Repair Your Headlights

Bookmark and Share

Your headlights are prone to getting damaged unfortunately due to their position. If you do get cracks or chips in your headlights then it is important you get these repaired quickly to avoid the damage spreading further and costing you more in the long run.

Luckily it’s possible to make headlight repairs yourself. They are fairly straight forward to do and will not cost much either.

Headlamp Repair Kit

The first thing to do is to purchase a Headlamp Repair Kit. Using a Headlight Repair Kit is the easy and affordable way to repair plastic bumpers, using professional materials and techniques.

These kits contain everything you need to repair cracks, splits and light accident damage on most automotive plastics and motorcycle fairings.

Headlamp repair instructions

Here is a summary of how to carry out headlight repairs. With step by step instructions you’ll find it easy to make cracks significantly less visible and to get a good match with the colour and texture of your vehicle or motorcycle. Full instructions will be included with your Headlamp Repair Kit.

Step 1: Put on protective gloves, read instructions carefully and check all contents before starting the repair. Clean the repair area with a cleaning wipe and ensure the surface is dry before performing the repair. Coat the back of one of the glass discs with the UV repair resin provided. (The front of the disc has beveled edges).

Step 2: Press the coated disc onto the headlamp glass over the damaged area.

Gently press down the disc and move it in a circular motion to squeeze out excess resin and trapped air bubbles. Clean off excess resin with cleaning wipe. The resin cures in daylight, therefore the car needs to be outside for the resin to cure. Leave in daylight for 10-20minutes for resin to cure. DO NOT LEAVE IN RAIN.

Step 3: If a crack has propagated already from the damaged area repeat steps 1 & 2 along the length of the crack.
