Welcome to HOW TO CHANGE A TYRE

Brought to you by
Here’s our handy guide, in association with Portslade MOT, showing you how to change a tyre on your car.

Tools you will need:

  • Wheelbrace
  • Jack to fit vehicle
  • Locking wheel nut key (if you have alloy wheels)
  • And for safety…

  • High-visibility vest
  • Warning triangle
  • And most importantly a spare wheel.

Firstly, release the pressure off the wheel nuts on the wheel.
If you have alloys then use a locking wheel nut key to release these

Next fit the jack underneath the vehicle at the jacking point. The jacking point is located next to the wheel in the car chassis.

Wind up the jack, which will then allow you to release the wheel nuts in the wheel – do this one-by-one.

Keep them safe so you can put them back on afterwards, then remove the wheel from the car.

Place the spare wheel on the wheel hub, lining up the bolt holes on it.

Replace the wheel nuts and tighten, but not too tight.

Now the vehicle can be lowered back to the ground and the wheel nuts can be tightened up.

Put the old wheel and the tools away in your vehicle.

Take it to a tyre repair specialist so it can be fixed or replaced.
