Teachers Story

Geoff Smith taught business and finance in Further Education. Little did he know that he would find a business model that he had urged his students to look out for – an opportunity to earn a rising monthly income from doing something once.

For years he had instilled into his students the need to create a business that would pay long term dividends following a period of activity.

He hadn’t heard of Utility Warehouse during his time teaching but you can imagine his excitement when he was first introduced to this unique opportunity.

Geoff worked at his new business in his spare time but it grew to a size that he had to teach part-time and finally he had to give up the day job altogether and concentrate on his new magic business.

He is now in the position that he no longer needs to teach and is building a Utility Warehouse business based on the sound principle of earning long-term from doing something once.

Policeman's story

Having left school and college I joined the Police service at 19 years of age, doing exactly what my parents had encouraged me to do and the traditional way of life in this country, going to school studying hard and getting a good job!!

After getting married in 1988 my wife Maria and I bought a small house as property prices were rocketing and we thought we’d never be able to afford one in the future, and after 2 years handed it back to the mortgage company due to being unable to afford the repayments at 12 – 15% interest rate.

You remember that don’t you!

We received a bill 3 years later for £21,000 for the deficit at time of sale and struggled to pay it off over 5 years. They say to create wealth you have to make mistakes to learn from!!

Having always had a slightly entrepreneurial type of mindset, I knew things would get better when we got off that ‘black list’! The only trouble was I didn’t have the courage or money to do anything about it, or so I thought. Having always dreamed of being a property tycoon I started doing some due diligence into the industry. I had not read a book since leaving school some 20 years previous, and in the last 5 years I’m very much past self education, property investment etc titles, CD’s and DVD’s.

I was first introduced to the idea of Network Marketing when I was in my late teens when a school friend did a presentation on a flip chart for Amway.

I was really interested in the concept of how the money worked and grew but we decided that it wasn’t for us at the time. Whilst a young serving Policeman I came a cross a Police colleague who was also involved in Amway, we used some of the products but again decided it wasn’t for us as back then it was very difficult to gain permission for a second income.

Then some 16 or so years later I was introduced to Network Marketing again and signed up.

The company were ok and my income gradually rose to about £650 a month although trying to sustain customers was very difficult.

Then one day some fella came to my door and said there was a new energy supplier in the area called the Utility Warehouse and would I like to give it a go.

We signed over our Gas & Electricity but he never told me about the business opportunity. Very silly man, as he could have made a lot of money from me!!

The thing was he never told me either that the company didn’t advertise or appear on switching sites which were new.

I did some checks, thought I could save money and switched away from the Utility Warehouse. So that fella lost me as a customer as well.

Then a couple of years ago a friend told me about a business opportunity run by Telecom Plus (Utility Warehouse parent company).

When I looked at it I thought I recognise them! I did my due diligence and I would always recommend that you do yours before signing up.

What a fantastic series of eye opening books and CD’s!

I have set myself the goal of not having to return to traditional full time work when I retire from the Police in just under 6 years aged 49.

Hi, I’m Vicky, a payroll specialist & book-keeper from Eastbourne. I am also a mum of three (two girls aged 11 & 12, and a boy aged 4).
