Where to eat - finding a restaurant

Have you ever sat around and thought ‘I fancy heading out for dinner tonight.’ Chances are you’ll go to the same restaurant that you always go to. But what if, just this once, you fancied a change? There are directories left, right and centre to find a local restaurant but how do you know if it’s any good?

Well, this is where the fun starts. In the advancing age of the wiki (user generated content websites like Wikipedia) there has emerged a very useful search device indeed (it’s not just for restaurants either, but that’s a good place to start all the same) – www.brownbook.net. Like you’re little black book, brown book has all the info you’ll need to find a local restaurant with loads of helpful reviews from previous customers to help you choose a good’n. And if your local isn’t in there, then you can add it, review it and share the joy with the world.

As of yet, brownbook.net boast a 34 million business strong directory. So, as I was looking for places to eat, I thought I’d review a couple of local favourites. Here are my (honest to supreme being) reviews, why don’t you check out brownbook.net and add your own?

Monsoon Restaurant (Indian)
42 High Street, Billingshurst, West Sussex, RH14 9NY

“The food at this restaurant is just fantastic! It's set in a beautiful grade II listed building and has real character. I'm lucky because I don't bump my head on the low beams but a warning to the tall - you will have to duck. The staff are always lovely and friendly, the restaurant has retained it's country charm and the service is excellent.

It's could just me but Indian food always seems really expensive, but at least at the Monsoon it feels like it's money well spent.

It's a delightful little restaurant and I would definitely go if you like Indian food!”

Smith and Western (American)
37 North Parade, Horsham, West Sussex, RH12 2QR
Tel: 01403 264927

“I LOVE going to this restaurant! It can be a bit hit and miss. Sometimes you get your food nice and quickly and everyone is happy and chatty. Sometimes it takes a real long time and the staff can only apologies over and over again. The food will go from amazing to ok depending on unknown factors. But it's just so much fun!!

I really miss theme restaurants and there’s something about the all-american atmosphere that just makes you laugh and have a good time. Admittedly if you're after something serious or romantic you might want to steer clear. So, yeah, random factors aside. It's good fun!

P.s If you ask real nicely some of the bar staff will mix you up all sorts of exciting cocktails and shots for special occasions. Plus the belly busters are just that...awesome”
