From seed swaps to gigs, there are lots of things to do in Brighton and Hove in the coming weeks. Here’s our run down of five of our top picks from what’s on in Brighton and Hove (thanks to our friends at Brighton and Hove Free Press)








Vive La France! Festival 2012
Between 26 and 28 January 2012, Brighton welcomes back Vive la France! Festival for its fourth visit to the city. Run by independent, south coast music promoters Melting Vinyl, it will be setting up camp in the bohemian area of the North Laine and showcasing the best of the French music scene in the UK. The venues that will be hosting the festival are The Hope, The Green Door Store, Plateau and Duke of York’s Picturehouse. The Picturehouse will be screening some classics of French cinema, to accompany the music, including the critically acclaimed ‘Amelie’. As well music and film, Vive la France! will also be bringing the best of food and drink from French culture. All venues will be over-18s only and ID will be required.

UK’s largest Seed-Swap: Brighton’s Seedy Sunday
Brighton’s largest and longest established seed swap event is back for its 11th year and is expected to be even bigger than previous years. Seedy Sunday 2012 is expected to see more than 2,000 people swapping and buying seed, with all proceeds from the entry fee being ploughed back into the event.A full programme of speakers is expected to include seed, food and organic campaigners, writers and activists, plus an ever-popular question time session to help those new to sowing and growing or wanting advice on everything from varieties to grow to improving the soil.

Olly Murs @ The Brighton Centre
X Factor runner up Olly Murs is bringing his latest tour to Brighton on 7 and 8 February this year. He is currently touring the country promoting his second album entitled: ‘In Case You Didn’t Know’ and it is set to be a great show. Murs impressed Simon Cowell during his first audition on the X Factor when he sang ‘Superstition’ and Simon Cowell said that it was the ‘easiest yes’ he had ever given.

Ben Howard @ Concorde 2
Ben Howard, the troubadour from Totnes, is returning to Brighton on 15 February 2012 to play a sold out gig at Brighton’s Concorde 2. Songs like ‘Keep Your Head Up’ and ‘The Wolves’ have been firm favourites across the UK festival circuit for 2011 and feature on his debut album ‘Every Kingdom’, which is available now. Ben is already selling out 400-capacity venues across the UK, Germany and France, so it was no wonder that his Concorde 2 show sold out so quickly.

Brighton Half Marathon 2012
In its 22nd year, the Brighton Half Marathon takes place on Sunday 19 February 2012, starting at finishing on Madeira Drive at Brighton’s seafront. The Brighton Half Marathon is organised by and the main fundraiser for The Sussex Beacon. Although all public running places were snapped up in November 2011, organisers are calling for volunteers to help on the day and in the run up to Brighton Half Marathon 2012.
