Here is a list of our top five summer family days out in Sussex.

 Bentley Wildfowl and Motor Museum
Whatever the weather, Bentley Wildfowl and Motor Museum has lots to keep everyone busy. Younger visitors can enjoy the adventure play area or a ride on the steam train, while adults can indulge at the tearooms and enjoy home-cooked food. Outside, everyone can explore the wildfowl reserve, take a woodland trail or wander around the formal gardens. Inside, enjoy the vintage cars on display, plus the beautiful Bentley house.

Opening times: Open every day 10.30am – 5.30pm from 19 March – 31 October
Cost: £8 per adult, £6 per child, family tickets available.

Eastbourne Miniature Steam Railway Adventure Park
Take a trip around a country park with a difference this summer – by miniature railway. At the Eastbourne Miniature Steam Railway Adventure Park, there’s plenty of room for the whole family to relax – and an adventure park for the little ones to use up some of that energy they are so full of. Enjoy a cream tea followed by a stroll around the lake and see if you can spot any of the wildlife that calls the area home. All aboard!

Drusillas Park
Drusillas Park in Alfriston is packed full of animal fun for the whole family. You can meet the animals that call Drusillas home – including penguins, meerkats, lemurs, monkeys, gibbons, otters, iguanas, owls and birds of all shapes and sizes. You can even meet Thomas the Tank Engine. Still bursting with energy? There are plenty of other activities to fill your time with, including the Go Bananas! play area for younger children, and the Go Wild! adventure play area for those aged 7-12.

Smugglers Adventure
If your family likes its fun with a hint of fright, head down to the Smugglers caves in Hastings this summer. Meet Hairy Jack and his smuggler friends and find out more about the secrets the dark tunnels and sandstone caves of Hastings hide. Are you prepared to be scared?
Where: St Clements Cave, Hastings
Opening times: Open every day from 10am – 4pm
Cost: £7.50 per adult, £5.50 per child, family tickets available.

The Observatory Science Centre
Find out more about the wonders of science this summer at the Observatory Science Centre in Herstmonceux. Enjoy a whole host of permanent and temporary exhibitions, both inside and out, plus hands on science displays and experiments. The Centre offers a programme of bookable and drop-in events, so take a look at their website if you can’t decide what day to visit.
Where: Herstmonceux, East Sussex
Opening times: Open every day from 10am – 6pm throughout summer
Cost: £8.60 per adult, £6.45 per child (with voluntary Gift Aid donation). Family tickets available.
