Top 10 TV Themes

Stuck for something to do this Bank Holiday weekend? If the weather’s rubbish, why not curl up and embrace some retro TV. We got to thinking about some of the best TV shows there have been over the years, and eventually we moved on to our favourite TV themes – both old and new. Here’s the list we came up with – and we defy you to not sing along to at least one of them! By the way, this list is in no particular order, so don’t blame us if you disagree.

1.    Sesame Street
One of the best children’s TV shows ever created, Sesame Street has one of the best TV themes to match. Check out the video below and watch Gladys Knight & the Pips giving it a go. Altogether now, “Sunny day…”



2.    Batman
The original caped crusader. We’re not talking broody Christian Bale, we’re talking tight-vested, low budget Adam West. Watch out for the baddies – WHACK! BIFF! POW!



3.    Fresh Prince of Bell Air
Back in the day when Will Smith was the goofy king of everything, and pants were at their baggiest, the Fresh Prince of Bell Air reigned supreme. If you’re aged between 20 and 40, and you don’t know the words to this TV theme, what on earth have you been doing with your life?!



4.    Dr Who
Whether you’re a Tom Baker kinda guy or a David Tennant kinda girl, you’ll know the Dr Who TV theme. All aboard the Tardis. Check out this video below of the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra playing their version of the TV classic.



5.    Happy Days
If only life was like an episode of Happy Days, hey? And if only we knew someone as cool as the Fonz. An old school TV classic with, perhaps, an even more famous TV theme. Sunday, Monday, Happy Days…



6.    Cheers
Before there was Friends, there was Cheers. An American TV great that ran for 11 seasons from 1982 and spawned another fantastic sitcom: Frasier. And just in case you’d forgotten how the TV theme goes, you guessed it, we’ve got another video for you!



7.    Only Fools And Horses
One of the British stalwarts of British TV sitcoms, there’s not much left to say about Only Fools And Horses. Everyone remembers Del falling through the bar, or the chandelier falling from the ceiling, or even the Batman and Robin outfits. Mange tout.



8.    The Simpsons
One of the most famous cartoon families out there, The Simpsons are loved by adults and kids alike. Definitely one of the most well-known TV themes of our generation, and don’t pretend you don’t watch the whole opening sequence just to see what’s going to happen when they all squeeze on the sofa. 9.    The Muppet Show
The Sesame Street TV theme was up there, and now so is the Muppet Show Theme. Jim Henson’s lot have got it sorted!



10.    The Addams Family
Everyone’s favourite frightening family – the Addams Family. In all their infinite re-makes, one thing that rings true with this lot is the original TV theme. Check it out in the video below.
