Top 10 Motorcycle Accessories
For all motorcycle riders, summer is about one thing and one thing only, getting the bike out and enjoying a Sunday morning blast to blow away the cobwebs. Seasoned riders will know that there are certain items that are essential for enhancing the motorcycle experience and other that are crucial for keeping you safe. Well we have put our heads together and come up with the top 10 motorcycle accessories. Here we go.
1) Helmet - This compulsory piece of kit not only protects your head from serious injury in the event of an accident, it also reduces wind noise and protects against UV rays. When buying a motorbike helmet, make sure you opt for one that complies with either British Standard BS 6658:1985 or UN ECE Regulation 22.05.
2) Sunglasses – This must have motorcycle accessory isn’t just about looking cool; sunglasses will also protect your eyes from glare, as well as wind and debris if your motorbike helmet isn’t fitted with a visor.
3) Motorcycle Jacket – Whether you decide to go for leather, denim or canvass, a motorcycle jacket is essential for keeping you safe and comfortable whilst riding. With the advancements in clothing technology, you can now buy motorcycle jackets with various cooling systems to prevent you from steaming up during the warmer months.
4) Motorcycle Trousers – A decent set of leather or canvass motorcycle trousers will certainly protect your skin in the event of an accident. But safety aside, trousers will also protect you against debris, insects and other annoying little objects that can sting on impact.
5) Motorcycle Gloves – Your hands are probably the most vulnerable part of your body when riding, so coughing up for a pair of motorcycle gloves seems like a fair trade off. Also, as any all-year rider will confirm, riding in the rain without gloves is not at all pleasant.
6) Motorcycle Boots – If you value the ability to walk then this is one motorcycle accessory that you’ll want to invest in. Forget the trainers, sandals and flip flops that many riders can be seen wearing, a sturdy pair of motorcycle boots will protect you from injury should you come off, and prevent your ankles from getting burnt on the exhaust.
7) High Visibility Clothing – We’ve all seen the advert where the driver pulls out, straight into the path of an oncoming motorcycle, which unfortunately is an all too common occurrence. Naturally, any rider would want to prevent this from happening, and making yourself as visible as possible is the best way to go about it. For this reason, high visibility clothing is amongst the top 10 motorcycle accessories.
8) Tyre Pressure Gauge – A tyre blow out on a motorcycle, especially at high speed can be catastrophic. Avoid this by using a tyre pressure gauge to keep an eye on your bikes tyres. Riding on low pressure tyres will reduce their lifespan and ultimately cost you more in the long run.
9) Bike Cleaner – Bug splatter can reduce your visibility, so carrying a rag and some bike cleaner with you will help to keep your visor clear. Always remove grease and splatter as soon as possible, as the longer you leave it on there, the harder it will be to get off.
10) Disc Lock – With motorcycle crime on the rise in Britain, you’ll want to keep your pride and joy safe when unattended. A decent disc lock will prevent any opportunist thief from making of with your motorcycle in a hurry. You can pick up a disc lock from pretty much any motorcycle store, and they’re relatively inexpensive.
So whether you are looking to buy a motorcycle or get yours back on the road this summer, you'll want to think about picking up some of these must have accessories.
