The 2011 South of England Show
This year, the South of England Agricultural Society will be celebrating the 45th year of the South of England Show, and it looks set to be a record breaker.
The central theme for this year’s South of England show will be water, crucial to food production, animal husbandry and every element of agriculture. Agricultural students from Chichester College have constructed a water wheel that stands 12-feet tall. HRH The Earl of Wessex is expected to attend the unveiling of the wheel as part of the Show’s opening ceremony.
With spotlights thrown on the best in British agriculture, equestrianism, horticulture, food and drink, country crafts, as well as sports and entertainment, there’s sure to be something for everyone.
Here’s our guide to some of the things the 2011 South of England Show has to offer.
Entertainment
The White Helmets Motorcycle Display Team will be returning to the South of England Show once more to provide a stellar show. Military music will be provided by the Central Band of the RAF, whilst Casablanca Steps will be offering fun from the 1920s. There will also be one of the best outdoor shopping malls in the South East.
Eddie Kidd, the world famous stunt rider who jumped over the Great Wall of China, will be attending the Show for the first time. He will be attending with his charity exhibited, hoping to raise money for the Eddie Kidd Foundation, which supports the treatment and rehabilitation of stunt performers.
Children’s activities
Children will be able to see a wide selection of animals up close and take part in many different activities, including the prestigious Young Craftsmen of the Year Competition. In this competition, teenagers from across the South East will have the chance to display their crafty wares. There’s also Fur & Feather – the new children’s trail, the Fun Sheep Show, fairground attractions, Sheep Agility and Piggy Pranks.
Horticulture
Those with a passion for all things green-fingered can make the most of the South of England Show’s floral marquee. Expect stunning horticultural displays, from floral art to complete gardens.
Equestrian and other animal events
World-class riders will be competing in the South of England Show’s daily showjumping events, whilst audiences will also see displays from majestic heavy horses, Arabs, Cobs, working Hunters, Mountain and Moorland breeds.
