Sussex Savers - Saving Money on Your Bank Holiday Weekend
Plan your day out in advance so that you don’t have any nasty surprises on the day. For instance, you could check the vouchers section on Friday-Ad for bargains to be had whilst out and about. Look out for special promotions over the weekend. With this plan, it will be much easier to stick to a budget on the day.
A great way of saving money is to make sure that you consider all transport options for your fun days out. If there is a group of you, there are often discounts on public transport such as buses and trains. Booking in advance for train tickets can save you a packet. This will work out cheaper than petrol and parking costs of driving. Or, why not get the bike out and cycle? This is great exercise, good for the environment, and best of all, free!
If you do decide to drive on your bank holiday day out, take some simple steps to reduce your fuel consumption. Pack the car lightly to bring the load down. Keep your speed down to save on petrol. Drive smoothly and never accelerate or brake too harshly. You’ll be surprised just how much you can save on petrol like this.
Before heading out, it is always worth knowing what your eating options are. This bank holiday, you could make your own lunch and take a picnic for a fun and cheap way of filling your family’s tummies up. There’s nothing better than an al fresco feast in the sunshine on a day out.
Keep the kids entertained with what you already have. Rather than shelling out on overpriced rides or other attractions, take a few things with you to play with. These can be simple things like a football, Frisbee or bucket and spade for the beach. The children will be kept entertained and you’ll have some time to relax.
But if you are planning to head out this weekend, here are a couple of great Bank Holiday events to consider…
Head to Magnificent Moths at RSPB Pulborough Brooks….
Moths are those horrible brown creatures that invade your bedroom at night, right? Well there’s actually a lot more to them, as this fun family event will demonstrate.

Mosey on down to the Medieval Festival Weekend at Herstmonceux Castle…

Lewes District Council’s 17th annual visual arts festival comes to its conclusion this weekend at Newhaven Fort, with three exhibitions sure to attract the attention of local arts enthusiasts.

Get creative by joining the Hastings Film Challenge…

The pitch for this year’s event is ‘one title, one genre, five days, one three minute film’ – certainly enough to keep anyone occupied without having to shell out more over the Bank Holiday Weekend. Winners will receive a coveted Logie Award, in celebration of famous town resident and pioneer of television, John Logie Baird. The event kicks off on Saturday at 11am.
