Overhaul your home and get into cleaning
The word ‘cleaning’ is an unsightly one for many of us, cleaning is a chore and not one which finds itself at the top of your to-do list very often; nevertheless it must be done, and sometime can make you feel a whole lot better.
I’m not talking giving the lounge a quick whip round with the vacuum cleaner, I mean really sorting out your home – get into all the nooks and crannies, clear out the junk, and give everything a scrub down.
The traditional Spring Clean doesn’t have to be done in spring; it can be done at any time of the year and can also be pretty therapeutic. If you have those days where you feel everything is in a bit of a mess and you feel disorganised in yourself the re-organising your home can make you feel better on the inside too.
The best way to overhaul your home and get into cleaning is to dedicate a couple of days to do it in, and do one room at a time. The garage, if you have one, or the kitchen, is usually a good place to start. We all have those drawers that get used when we don’t have a dedicated place for said item, so they all get accrued in this one place.
Start by cleaning out that drawer; get rid of the old batteries and keys for which you don’t have the matching lock – you don’t need these items and you never will so why on earth are they in your house?
You will soon find that cupboard by cupboard you will feel more organised in yourself as your home becomes more functional. If in doubt about chucking things out think to yourself ‘have I used this in the last six months?’ if the answer is no then get rid; also if you find yourself thinking ‘ooh, that might come in handy one day’ – you know deep down that it won’t and it needs to be put in the bin.
One you’ve worked your way through your home and have a few lovely serene places you can now pay attention to your discarded items; they could be a money-making opportunity, you can sell them at a car boot sale or even list them online by using the Friday-Ad. Then not only will you have a calm and clean home, but you’ll have more cash in your wallet too.
