Free creative writing workshops @ Brighton Waterstones
In honour of the season of romance – and in a un-schmaltzy, non-commercial fashion - Story Scavenger is back in February for another free creative writing workshop at Brighton Waterstones, this time on the theme of lurve. Join in for fun and inspiring creative writing games and exercises – all linked to a monthly theme. All writers welcome, whatever their level of experience – absolute beginners to Nobel Laureates.
Date: 2 February 2012 (first Thursday of every month)

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah @ Coalition
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah are returning to Brighton to play their first gig in the city for six years, almost to the day. This is going to be one that you should simply not miss. The band’s third release, Hysterical, widens the band’s idiosyncratic formula, incorporating a remarkably expansive tidal wave of sound, all multi-layered keyboard tracks and big, booming drums, tied together by Alec Ounsworth’s unique soaring vocals.

Funny Girls @ Caroline of Brunswick
Funny Girls! resident host Hannah Brackenbury has left The Short & Girlie Show in charge. They bring you high energy improvised comedy sketches. Three Short & Girlies also bring their own acts to the night. Expect visits from a Cliff Richard obsessed fan, a suburban dominatrix and a song on how to spell “lesbian”.

Michael Kiwanuka @ Komedia
The stage is set for Michael Kiwanuka (pictured) to become a huge star and his Komedia show on 15 February is sure to be one to remember. Kiwanuka won the coveted BBC Sound of 2012 award, has supported Adele on tour and has also blown everyone away on Later…with Jools Holland. If you’re lucky enough to already have tickets, you’re sure to be in for a treat.
