Ideal gifts for Father's Day

Ideal Gifts for Fathers DayFather’s Day is nearly here once again. Even though it’s on the same day every year, the third Sunday in June, it still has a habit of creeping up on us seemingly without warning. But don’t panic! Check out our guide for some great ideas of what to get your dad this Father’s Day.

Make him a special Father’s Day breakfast

The best Father’s Day breakfasts, like gifts, are often the ones that have been thought about. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy – what’s the point in serving caviar and champagne if your dad would rather have beans on toast and a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice? Simple doesn’t have to mean boring though. For example, if you know your dad loves a good fry up, why not try and make it a bit different by using chili pork or beef sausages. Try and get fresh ingredients as well, if you can, for the best quality.

Think outside the box
Chances are your dad has a drawer full of socks and a hanger full of ties. Father’s Day is a great opportunity to show your dad how much you think of him and so it’s worth putting a bit of thought into his present. Think about what he likes, if there’s something he’s always wanted to do or something he loved as a child. This could mean tracking down an old edition of his favourite novel, buying a subscription to his favourite magazine, or printing and framing his favourite photograph.

Spend some time together
If your dad is one of those people who seems to have everything then why not plan a day out together somewhere. Whatever his favourite hobby might be, you could plan a day around that. Or even, if you think he’d rather, you could just spend the evening together down the pub. If you’re unable to see each other on the actual day, you could always send him a card or a homemade ‘gift certificate’ that explains what you’ve got planned. That way, he won’t think you’ve forgotten about him!

Make your own card
Greetings cards are great but there’s nothing like putting the effort in and making something really personal. It doesn’t have to be the greatest piece of artwork created this decade, just something that is special between you and your father. You could include something like an in-joke that’s been running for years or an old photograph of the family. If you are feeling really creative, you could go one step further and make a whole scrapbook. Scrapbooks are a great way to keep a collection of old photographs, ticket stubs, leaflets, posters or anything that is somehow connected to any time you have spent together.
