”The process is very simple and straightforward. I have sold everything from toys to furniture using Friday-Ad. For most items the service has been free. Very profitable, and a lot less effort than a car boot sale! ”

How to organise your kitchen

The kitchen is probably the only room in your house that serves multiple functions; you eat in it, you cook in it, you entertain in it, drink in it – even the dog uses it as a bedroom come play area.

With all of these things going on in one room it can be tricky to get organised so that everything has a logical place to live rather than you having to search cupboard after cupboard to try and find that one item you were looking for.
The key to organising your kitchen is to mentally separate it into different areas; for example a food preparation area, a cooking area, an eating area etcetera.
Use the plug sockets in the room to dictate where certain activities will take place; put the kettle next to a plug socket, as well as the toaster so you have easy access to these items when you need them. If you have cupboards at head height these can be brilliant to help you get organised.
Wherever your kettle is you need to pick the nearest cupboard to it to house all of your mugs, tea bags, coffee granules and sugar. It makes sense to have these items close together so when you go to make a hot drink you have everything at your fingertips rather than having to move from one end of the kitchen to the other to get the sugar.
Another good idea when organising your kitchen is to make sure that your cutlery is central to everything. Cutlery is one of those items that will need to be used in just about every kitchen activity you can think of, so it makes sense to keep it in the middle, in a waist height, accessible drawer.
When organising heavy items such as pots and pans you should try to make sure that these are housed in one of the lower cabinets in your kitchen; it is not a good idea to keep them in a high cupboard as this could easily cause accidents and the last thing you want to do is drop a heavy saucepan on your foot.
If you have limited cupboard space in your kitchen but you have space between the cupboards and the ceiling then don’t forget this can make very good storage space as well. Choose to store items here that you don’t mind being on view – maybe your collection of recipe books or some nice decorative teapots.
If you have pretty cake tins these could also be stored above your cupboards; when organising your kitchen it’s useful to think about how some items could be displayed as decoration as well as for their practical purposes. Doing this will then free up valuable drawer and cupboard space which you can use for items you wouldn’t want on show such as chopping boards and crockery.
