”The process is very simple and straightforward. I have sold everything from toys to furniture using Friday-Ad. For most items the service has been free. Very profitable, and a lot less effort than a car boot sale! ”

How to make your caravan safe for dogs and puppies

The whole point of going on a caravan holiday is that it feels like a home from home and what kind of home would it be without having your beloved dogs and puppies along for the ride? In order for the whole family to have a safe and happy holiday, you need to know how to pet-proof your caravan.

Dogs and puppies (especially when little) are extremely curious, with enough determination they will get into just about anywhere!

In the kitchenette of your caravan make sure you have door locks on all the cupboards – even the high up ones. Child-proof catches are brilliant for this and it means your dog will be safe from snooping around dangerous chemicals and all of your food.

The same goes for the fridge – make sure you attach a pet proof catch to the fridge door.

Do a once over of your caravan before your dog or puppy is allowed inside and block up any small nooks or gaps in the furniture – if you have a young animal, especially apuppy, they will squeeze into the tiniest of spaces and you don’t want to end up having to deconstruct the inside of your caravan to dig out the dog from behind the sofa!

In the living area of your caravan make sure that all the wires are out of reach and secured to the wall, these are really hazardous to small animals, especially if they chew! You can get cable ties from most home ware stores that will tidy your cables and keep them safe from your furry friends. They also make the space tidier – and in a small caravan this can really help.

In the toilet, make sure the lid is down at all times and try to keep shower gels and shampoo tucked away so as not to create a hazard for your animal. If your dog is still young it is likely that they will have a lot of pent up energy – combine this with the small space of a caravan and you’ve got a recipe for disaster if you’re not careful.

It is also important to check your pitch area around the outside of the caravan for any holes in the fence or water nearby. Of course you want your dogs and puppies to be able to explore their surroundings, just be careful about how much free space they get, and check the ground around you for any sharp or dangerous items left by the caravanners before you.

Another essential for your pet is to provide plenty of chew toys. Just as children would, in bad weather pets will get bored stuck inside all day, especially in a caravan as there is less space for them to move around and explore. So make sure they have entertainment otherwise they will turn to your belongings as an alternative!
Whether you normally insure your dog or not, it is worth doing so if you are taking them with you on holiday – especially in a caravan. If your pet does fall ill or has an accident you need to know that they can get medical treatment without you having to break the bank.
