Free stuff to do at the weekend
It’s a week or two before payday and your household bills have eaten up a fair amount of your hard-earned cash, but you can’t just sit indoors doing nothing all weekend can you?
It’s time to get creative and think of things you can do for free, or at least for very little money.
If the weather is good the first thing you need to think about is heading outside; many public parks are now installing various bit of fitness equipment that are free to use – so why not take advantage of this and get a work out for free? You don’t have to spend loads of money on a gym membership to keep fit, and it’s always nice to exercise in the fresh air rather than amongst thirty other sweaty people racing away on a treadmill.
Another brilliant thing to do is to have a look online for local markets; car boot sales, jumble sales and fates. These can be really good fun to just go and look around even if you don’t intend on buying anything.
You’ll be amazed at the amount of interesting stuff you’ll find at a car boot, even if you couldn’t think of anything worse than buying half of it, most of us are nosey by nature and this is a good way of feeding that interest.
Also if you head to a car boot sale towards the end of the day you will probably find people giving their belongings away for free. Lots of vendors don’t want to carry stuff all the way home again so they’ll give it away to possible customers instead.
If the weather is bad you’ll need to turn your attention to things you can do inside the house instead; baking and dessert making is fun and can be easily done with just some essential ingredients.
Most people readily have eggs, flour and sugar in their kitchen cupboards which is pretty much all you need to make a cake. Spend one or two pounds on a jar of jam and whip up some butter and sugar and you’ve got yourself a Victoria Sponge!
Even if you don’t have a recipe book you can look online and download some free recipes to try out on your friends and family.
Now if you can trust yourself not to become Noah and try to fill an ark with animals you could also visit a pet re-homing centre for dogs and cats. So many of them look for volunteers to walk the dogs and some even do cat cuddling sessions where you can go down and spend some time with the cats.
