Finding an Olympic job

Finding an Olympic jobThe London Olympics are creating tens of thousands of jobs across the country, both in the build up to the London 2012 games and during them.  There are opportunities in a range of positions, from ticketing to security and from IT to hospitality.

Of course, much of these jobs are based in London, Weymouth where the sailing events are taking place, and other key cities such as Liverpool and Glasgow. According to the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) 20% of the workforce in the capital is to be recruited locally from the six London boroughs hosting the games.

This still leaves a lot of opportunity for people outside of that area to apply to be a part of this historic event. LOGOC is said to be keen on ensuring that there is a highly diverse workforce encouraging, young unemployed people and the disabled to apply.

Steve Girdler of Adecco, the official recruiter for the Olympic and Paralympic Games said: "The range of jobs available means there are opportunities for just about anybody in the UK." Jobs on the official ‘Jobs for the Games’ website include management, finance and tourism positions, among others.

In the South East there is likely to be an increase of work thanks to an influx of tourists visiting the region to be a part of this fantastic event. There have also been some suggestion that other parts of the UK will receive more tourists thanks to people escaping the capital whilst the Olympics is on, inadvertently spreading the economic wealth out from the capital.

Either way it’s likely that there will be more jobs in hotels, cafe’s and shops with cities such as Brighton expecting more visitors than usual this summer. So whether it’s through people enjoying the games or getting a break from the capital there are plenty of opportunities for finding an Olympic job this year.
