Creating the perfect home

Creating the perfect homeCreating the perfect home is something that is largely subjective. The bright colours and bold lines that appeal to one person may not be to another’s tastes, similarly what may seem a tranquil neutrality in beige and white for one person may well be a boring bunker to another. So when creating the perfect home it isn’t so much what you do but how you do it and what you focus on.

There are, no matter what your taste, a few things you should remember when trying to create the perfect home. They are; function, tone, centre pieces and lifestyle.

Function is important in any home and no matter what you do to change the look, feel and space provided in a room keep in mind its function. This will decided how much room you have to spare, the colours that would best suit it and more importantly the kind of paint or wall paper you’ll need. For example, wall paper in a bathroom is a bad idea because of all the moisture. So keep functionality in mind when designing your home.

Tone is important too and better reflects the personality of the home and the people in it. This is where those colour preferences, the style of sofas, curtains and accessories really matter. They should possess some unified theme – unless, that is, the only unification you want is that everything is mismatch! To help cultivate a unified tone remember greens, purples and blues are cool and reds, oranges and yellows are warm.

Central pieces are often what spurs or prompts the room design; that gorgeous armchair, piano, drinks cabinet etc may well be at the heart of your room, so take the essence of it and feed it into your designs.

Finally your home should speak of your lifestyle. My home is filled with mad sporty people and because of it you can barely walk three feet without tripping over rackets or sports bags. But, at the end of the day, it’s my home and it wouldn’t be the same without those things, so find a way to bring them into your home to make it truly your perfect space.
