Bank Holiday Weekend Safety Tips

With the August bank holiday approaching fast, we would like to offer some safety advice to accompany our newsletter advertisers over this exciting period. We have selected 2 of the most common activities, plus some travel safety that could easily turn a fun packed bank holiday into a disaster.

Barbecue SafteyBarbecue Safety
  • Make sure your barbecue is in good working order.

  • Ensure the barbecue is on a flat site, well away from a shed, trees or shrubs.

  • Keep children, garden games and pets well away from the cooking area.

  • Never leave the barbecue unattended.

  • Keep a bucket of water or sand nearby for emergencies.

  • Ensure the barbecue is cool before attempting to move it.

Camping SafetyCamping Safety Advice
  • Allow at least 6m spacing between tents and caravans.

  • Never use candles in or near a tent. Torches are much safer.

  • Flammable liquids and Liquefied Petroleum Gas cylinders should be kept outside the tent.

  • Oil burning appliances are not recommended.

  • Cooking appliances should never be used in small tents.

  • Never light a candle or have any other kind of flame burning apparatus in or near to a tent.

  • Cook outside and away from the tent.

  • Don't smoke inside the tent and keep any flammable material away from the cooking area.

  • Have an escape plan.
