Badminton Horse Trials 2012: 3 – 7 May 2012

Badminton Horse Trials 2012: 3 - 7 May 2012One of the most famous events in the British equestrian calendar, the Badminton Horse Trials, takes place from the 3 – 7 May 2012.

12 nations will be represented at this year’s Badminton Horse Trials, with the leading rider set to be Michael Jung. Michael Jung, the reigning World and European Champion from Germany, will be at Badminton for the first time and will be bringing Leopin FST with him.

As for the leading horse at Badminton, the horse with the most international points at the top of the entries is Lenamore. Lenamore will be looking for his first win and eighth completion under Caroline Powell from New Zealand.

Seven previous winners are among those to compete at the Badminton Horse Trials 2012. These are:

Mary King, the 2011 HSBC FEI Classics Series Champion
Pippa Funnell, the only Rolex Grand Slam winner
William Fox-Pitt, the six times Burghley winner
Mark Todd, the 2011 Mitsubishi Motors champion and double Olympic gold medalist
Paul Tapner, the Badminton Horse Trials 2010 champion
Andrew Hoy, the triple Olympic team gold medalist
Oliver Townend, a previous Badminton and Burghley double winner

Zara Phillips, the daughter of Anne, Princess Royal, is faced with a good chance of a top placing with High Kingdom.

The Badminton Horse Trials 2012 take place from the 3 – 7 May 2012 and many of the riders from all over the world will be using the Trials as a final attempt to impress their respective Olympic team selectors.

The 2012 programme opens with the Mitsubishi Motors Grassroots Championships on Thursday 3 May, followed by two days of dressage on Friday 4 and Saturday 5 May. After that comes cross country on Sunday 6 May. Finally, the climax of the Badminton Horse Trials in the main arena will take place on the Bank Holiday Monday 7 May 2012.
