Armed Forces Day Saturday - 30th June 2012
Armed Forces Day this year will be on the 30th June so get prepared to get involved. It is the perfect opportunity for you to show your support for the men and women who are in the Armed Forces, from currently serving troops to service families and from veterans to cadets. People come out in their numbers to show their support as well as raise public awareness of the contribution made to our country by those who serve and have served in Her Majesty's Armed Forces.
Communities around the United Kingdom will be holding events and local businesses always show their support for the day, which is set to be a good one. There is also a national event taking place in Plymouth, but if you don’t want to head all the way to the South West, then why not attend an Armed Forces Day event near you?
Seahaven Armed Forces Day 2012
If you are in or around Seaford then you should definitely attend Seahaven Armed Forces Day 2012. It is set to be a wonderful celebration, where everyone can show their appreciation to those who are involved with the armed forces. The event will be held in Seaford on Saturday 30th June from 11am to 4pm and there will also be a fantastic parade march at around 2pm. This event is great for the whole family as there will be funfair rides for the kids along with mini tanks (which also fit adults) and there will also be plenty of music and food on offer. There will also be a number of military vehicles on display for all to see which have been supplied by the Forces, the Royal British Legion and by Help for Heroes. Be prepared for a splendid day on the seaside and get involved in Armed Forces Day 2012.
East Grinstead Armed Forces Day
If Seaford is a bit far for you to travel then you could always head on over to East Grinstead for the day. The East Grinstead Armed Forces Day is all set to be one huge celebration and it all kicks off on Saturday 30th June from 10.30am until 2.30pm. There will be plenty on offer including the Band of the Grenadiers march, which will run from Kings Street along the London Road and the High Street to East Court/ Meridian Hall. Then the Deputy Lord Lieutenant, East Grinstead Town Mayor and the Chairman of the Armed Forces Day take the salute by the War Memorial in the High Street. There will then be a number of speakers and announcements followed by the band playing a fanfare to open the celebration in the Meridian Hall.
West Sussex Armed Forces Weekend
In West Sussex, there will be a whole weekend of celebrations. Head over to Steyne Gardens on Worthing Seafront and get involved in the celebrations throughout the two day event. The West Sussex Armed Forces Weekend will run from Saturday 30th June to Sunday 1st July 2012 and it will be open from 10.30am until 5pm, with plenty of stalls, stage events, evening concerts and much much more. There will be a number of military vehicles on display and there will also be plenty of food and refreshments on offer. On the Sunday there will be the Worthing annual drumhead service in front of hundreds of spectators including VIPs from throughout Sussex. And, seeing as it is the Armed Forces Weekend there will also be a number of ex service men and women attending.
Littlehampton Armed Forces Day
Littlehampton Town Council and Harbour Park are, once again, showing their support for the men and women of our Armed Forces on Saturday 30 June and you’re invited to join them. The event will be held on the seafront greens and Harbour Park. Many local uniformed groups will take part in a marching parade on the promenade starting at 10.30am near East Beach Cafe, and then proceed to West Green where a Drumhead Service will be conducted. One of the highlights of the day is the Portsmouth Action Field Gun Run Club who, in 2001, resurrected the ‘field gun runs’ after the Royal Navy stopped it in 1999. Their displays promise to provide spectators with similar amazement often seen in British Military Tournament displays. On West Green there will be arena performances from the Rose & Thistle Band and over twenty stalls from a variety of uniformed groups including a fundraising stall from one of the event’s charities ‘Help 4 Heroes’. Another highlight of the day will be the aerobatic flying display that will take place after 1pm over the sea. Two experienced pilots will be flying single engine aircraft and performing a series of jaw-dropping stunts for the crowd’s enjoyment.
