A Guide to Wedding Transport
Whatever you may or may not have imagined for your big day, transport may well have slipped from the radar. Sure, the wedding dress will be beautiful, the colours scheme will run through the reception, you’ve seen the invites; so on and so forth. But what about getting there? You don’t want to end up being driven by the women down the road because you’ve forgotten to book something, do you? Exactly, so we’ve put together a helpful little guide to finding the perfect wedding transport.
I know it’s almost an audacity to mention the mere thought of the bride walking with her beautiful wedding dress and kitten heels, but way back when all this started it was regarded as the best method of transport. Admittedly they may have chosen a car if such an opportunity had been an option, but the idea of walking to your wedding still holds with some of the superstitions of old like ‘something old, something new.’ It was thought that walking was best because that way you had more of a chance of spotting good omens. So if you’re getting married in a local church or venue, why not walk it? Just remember to have a back up plan in case of bad weather.
Horse and Carriage
We all know that every fairy tale wedding ends with a horse and carriage ride. It’s the most romantic but it may not suit a modern wedding, so think carefully before choosing Cinderella’s preferred mode of transport. How far do you have to travel? How much time do you have to get there? What is the weather likely to be like (especially if you’re planning a winter/spring wedding)? These are all things to consider.
Limousines are all A-list spectacle and Hollywood glam! What could be more extravagant and memorable then turning up in a limo for your wedding? If you’ve got the budget to spend then why not; but don’t forget that the first ride will just be the bride and the father of, then you and your groom can be whisked away in style to your lavish reception. Can you afford all the room for the two person trip?
Classic cars are a great idea for your wedding transport and can often combine a number of wants from both you and the groom. You can have elegance and style while getting something that personally represents the bride and groom. A sleek Jaguar, a Bentley, a Rolls, why not an Aston Martin? They’re all great ideas but remember when choosing your car, that they often don’t have seat belts fitted as standard in the back, the room can be very limited, meaning that you’ll have to pick one to fit your wedding dress, and they aren’t the most reliable, so make sure you’ve a back up car to hand.
For those who are dreaming of a huge entrance, or just really like helicopters. This is the most extravagant manner of arriving for your big day imaginable, but it does speak of you as a couple so might be worth considering. If you’ve got the cash to splash, aren’t too worried about climbing in and out of it, or have a wicked sense of adventure then a helicopter may well be for you!
So we’ve named the classics forms of wedding transport but there are so many other options it’d make your head spin. Why not turn up in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang? The Batmobile? A Pink Cadallac? If this doesn’t sound quite right, how about a fire engine? An open topped bus? A hot air balloon? A motor bike (with or without side car)? A boat? The possibilities are endless but the most important thing is that it is special to you and makes your wedding day even more perfect.
