A Guide to Wedding Themes

When putting together a ‘theme’ for your wedding there are many things to consider above and beyond your bridesmaids dresses and what colour the ushers’ tuxes should be.

So, what are the important things to consider when picking, and implementing, a theme for your wedding?

Starting points

Colours
Colours are often the easiest place to start when it comes to creating a unified theme for your wedding. Colours are consistent and can be translated into every aspect of your day, so that bringing it all together is simple and quick. If you choose pinks and reds you can put them in the bouquet, the bridesmaids dresses, the dinnerware the table clothes, the favours and even the food!

Seasonal
A seasonal wedding can be a fabulous choice. It emulates its surroundings and grounds the wedding in a wonderland of colour and time. It means that you can have an idealised, picturesque setting without having something too outlandish. Take a spring theme for example: sweet, clean greens and soft rosy pinks can be combined for a fresh feel. Decorated Easter eggs make
great favours; tulips, daffodils and lilies will look great on the tables, with for your wedding big, colour co-ordinated ribbons that will hold your choice of flowers like miniature hay bails; and the warming weather means that a lakeside reception or horse drawn carriage would fit perfectly into place.

Style Themes
Often picking colours or seasons is not enough to completely shape your wedding, so choosing a ‘style’ will help you define the look of your big day. Something like; elegant, classic, romantic, floral, minimalistic, vogue or bohemian etc. That way when it comes to choosing the layout and artistic merit of your wedding invitations, dinnerware and so on, you’ll have something to guide you.

Fantastical
A fantastical wedding could be just the thing if you’re not as fond of traditional weddings. The possibilities here are endless… well, as endless as your purse anyway. With a fantastical wedding you can have a fairy tale come true, a medieval flourish, a renaissance ball, a lavish mardi gras or a glamorous film debut.

Sports, Hobbies and Interests
These may fall under the fantastical theme but we thought they deserved a little separate mention. We’ve all heard the story of the crazy couples that have got married under water or while jumping out of a plane. Now, while it may not suit every bride it’s the perfect outward expression of marriage, especially if it’s required a little compromise
